Absolutely. I took my 5 and 7 year old there yesterday. There's no lifeguard, so it's on you to watch your kids, but the beach itself is beautiful and my kids loved it.
Yes, you may swim in the ocean with your children, at your own risk as our beach is not guarded. Be certain to look at the beach warning flags before entering the water.
On a calm day, however, there are no lifeguards. We were there with some out of town friends yesterday and there was a school of sharks swimming close to the shore! Keep your eyes open and watch the flags the state park rangers hang at the entrance and on the beach.
