Are the aquarium and zoo both assessable during a days' trip or is it best to separate the two and go on different days?

If you do the zoo as soon as it open then go to the aquarium after lunch though can do both

Yes you can if you start early. Plan to spend around 3 hours or so at the aquarium. And just save the zoo for another day and take your time to enjoy enjoy it.

You can but it would be an all day affair to go to both, unless you're just speeding through. The aquarium is small but the zoo isn't. Also, they're not very close to each other so you would need to spend some time getting from one to the other and also would need to squeeze a meal in. If you have very small children I wouldn't recommend it.

2-3 hours for the aquarium. Longer at the zoo

The aquarium is not very big so I'd say yes. It doesn't talk long even with a movie.
