Hi Rosemary, the SPCA Albrecht Center is able to save through adoption or transfer 98% of the animals we take in thanks to our supportive community. If your dog was adopted from a shelter or rescue, please double check with them first about taking the dog back. Many shelters will take back pets that they've adopted out, and some shelters require this. We take in owner surrenders as we have open spaces. The process for surrendering a pet is to schedule a behavioral evaluation with our Canine Behaviorist by calling (803) 648-6863. Once your dog passes that evaluation, you'll be put on a wait list until we have an open room. The wait is typically 2-6 weeks depending on how frequently folks are coming in to adopt. We don't charge a fee for surrender, but we do appreciate any donation you can give that will help us cover the cost of caring for this pet until he is adopted.
