Its not free to park you pay 10.00 dollars and the pool is free
Yes, if you are willing to walk ~1/4 mile on an easy trail, half paved, half dirt. ~10 mins? doable with (some) kids. Parking is free at the SPAC lot on RT-50. For the Peerless, park at the southeast end of the lot (back right). Get closer if you can park in the grassy lot past the paved section. There's a bike path on the East edge of the parking area. Follow it to the right (south). Soon you will see Geyser Park Road swing next to the bike path. Cross over to the side of the road. Continue to follow the road to the right (southeast), ~ 0.1 mile. It slopes gently down, curving between the Coesa and Hathorn pavilions. When you pass Hathorn, look for a dirt/gravel trail on the left (there are more than one access trail). Follow the trail around to the right, you should be able to see/hear kids playing at the pool soon. When you get close to the Peerless Pool complex fence, go around to the right (south) side to get to the entrance. Also, look into the Empire Pass for NY residents.
