I asked if service animals were allowed-was told yes but they will ask what the service is for & we Must provide explanation. Stress or P TSD related are NOT allowed only medical as they see fit. I hung up.. Unjust & illegal process.

Asking if the animal is a Service Dog and what service they provide is legal. ESA dogs are not protected under the same laws as Service Dogs. Service Dogs are allowed. However, ESA dogs are not. Edit: A comment by Bill Mears seemed confused on what an ESA dog is. So as someone with an ESA dog I wanted to clarify. Unlike Service Dogs, ESA dogs are legit just random dogs with a doctor's note. They require absolutely NO prior training. Because of this, they are not protected under the same laws as Secive Dogs (whom go through rigorous training since pups by professionals). So it is left up to the individual business on whether they allow ESA dogs. Simply put, the ESA title is thrown around a lot so people can bring their pet everywhere with them. Plus many people with PTSD are not veterans.

Awesome to know that they distinguish between ESAs and service animals. The difference is significant.

Amanda Watts is correct. I know people with ESA dogs would like the same protections and maybe someday they will have it but for right now only medical dogs are protected under ADA rules.

If you fought for this country and you need a service dog to calm your PTSD, you should be authorized the same privileges as any person with a disability. The dog doesn't know the difference and just because ESA dogs aren't yet authorized doesn't give anyone the right to be disrespectful to the veteran who didn't know the difference. I would rather be fired from my job than deny a veteran and his service dog the same privilege as disabled civilians.
