I would go get a photo i.id. even at 17. But the TSA said if you lost your i.d. you can use others and they can try to prove identity. But in that case if you have birth certificate and s.s.i card with you that would help. TSA said if no proof of identification they can try to get you identified. But this could take some time. So you would have to be at airport really early before your flight. I just had a friend try to fly from Florida to R.I. with no proof on him at all. They was more then willing to help but he did not get there early enough and missed his flight. So safe route to take is get a photo i.d. my kids had one at 15 so they could work. Good luck. Also if you live in a state that does not print out a photo i.d. right away. Ask if other d.m.vs do in your state . Or ask them to give you a temporary i.d because you will be flying before you get yours.

It is opinion at this time, it would be safe to get a legal ID at DMV.
