No; intubation is part of general anesthesia. Parathyroid surgery (at least at Norman Parathyroid Center) is almost always light anesthesia with patients breathing on their own.
I just had surgery yesterday.I flew in from NY. I oringally planned on having surgery last fall at Tampa General but due to unforeseen circumstances had to postpone. Then when able covid hit and there was a 2 week quarantine if coming from NY which I couldn't do. So when the quarantine was lifted in September I wanted to fly in one day have surgery 2nd day and fly home 3rd day. However due to covid I would have had to stay an extra day for a covid test difficult for me due to complications at home.So found out they started doing 25% of surgerys at smaller private hospital Memorial because they did rapid testing the am of surgery so could fly home next day plus wouldn't have to b intubated as is now requirement of Tampa General also due to Covid. It was explained to me that because Memorial is a private hospital they r not required to intubate unless you have a personal health condition that requires it. Had a great experience yesterday with Dr Carling and Rhodes .Flying home today.
No intubation, just good general anesthesia.
