Bess Wallace (Truman), married Harry S. Truman in 1919, and they continued to live in their home, now part of the Harry S. Truman National Historic Site. They lived there off and on during his time in the Senate and White House, and returned after. They both lived there, with former President Truman dying there in 1972, and Bess continued to live there until her death in 1982, at which time she gave the site to the National Park Service.
