Truman was born in 1884 on the family farm in Lamar, MO. By 1890 his family had moved to Independence MO so that HST and his siblings could attend graded schools in Independence. By 1896 his family had moved to a home on the corner of Waldo and River Blvd. which still stands. Following graduation he briefly moved to Kansas City where he worked as a bank clerk before moving to Grandview for a brief stint on his family's farm. The White House located at the intersection of Truman and Delaware is traditionally known as the Truman home. It was built by his wife, Bess' father and Truman purchased it after her mother died without a will. The Truman's lived there until their passing when the house became a part of the National Park Service.
