Yes, you can reserve the covered areas. You have to call johnson county parks and recreation to make the reservation. Reservations are not refundable and are due in full upon the time of reservatuon. You can also do things in the nature building. Thr park opens at sunrise and closes at dusk, and the visitor center is open from 9am to 5p
