When I call in for citizenship the recording states the current appointment wait time is 24 months. But when I go on line to schedule an appointment there is nothing available for well past 48 months. All I see is red & black dates well into 2024.

I'm not aware of the appointment schedule. But in the meantime I would recommend gathering all your paper work that is required for the request. And find out if you can file directly in italy

24 months from today is maximum booking span in the future. It seems all slots have already been booked by applicants. Every day at 3pm PDT the system refreshes and releases 2 extra slots 2 yrs from now. Cancellations also make available other previously booked slots within 2 yrs time.
