I own a car with my soon to be ex. We are both on the title and the loan for purchase. Am I able to transfer the title into her name as sole owner? She has physical possession of the car. I know that the loan company won’t release me.

If the car loan is in both of your names, car needs to be sell or consult your divorce lawyer. I know when filing for divorce you have to submit all documents what you two owe, the judge won't sign the divorce papers not until this mortgage, car, credit card loans doesn't reach to an agreement.

Best to go in person and explain the situation. They might require both ppl to be there. You can also call first and ask what to bring before waiting in line

What you will probably have to do is sell her your half of the car and process it as a sale. You should call the Tax Collector's Office though.

What I did was sign off on mine and she had to take it to the office to transfer it in to just her name, but everyone has different circumstances.
