The question is not at all silly. There is never anything wrong with inquiring about the Faith. An Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist is someone appointed by the Pastor to assist in distributing Communion when there are too many people for the priest to do so on his own in a timely manner. Given that the congregations of most Churches there days are rather large - particularly during season when out-of-state residents abound - Extraordinary Ministers are an almost permanent fixture at Sunday Masses by default...
