I have a 3-ton PAYNE A/C unit that was only installed late 2017. It has stopped blowing cold air. A city inspection that was at my house thought it was probably a lack of Freon. Why would such a new unit already need Freon? Thank you.

Freon doesn't deplete so only reason to be low would be a leak. That being said there are many more factors at hand. It's always better to call the pros. Give Payne a call and I'm sure a service tech would be out promptly and properly diagnose the issue.

Questions posted here are answered by the general public. A leak can be caused by a number of things. 1) mechanical damage, to condenser coil / lines 2) manufacturing defect 3) installation defect 4) corrosion and more.

Hi Lori. Would only need freon if it has developed a leak.
