There are lots of informational areas that are still open where you can learn more about the history and the telescopes.
When I hiked there on 12/31, a couple of self guided museums were open. Views are great on their own. Snack shop was closed but it was the holiday weekend.
There is a view of the Los Angeles Basin from the parking lot. The grounds themselves are very pretty and make for a nice walk. Or go hiking on the nearby trails. It's always a worthwhile trip.

Yeah, u can go up there and walk around the area but your limited to what u can see/do. The view by it self is great
