Definitely. There are educational exhibits and tours in addition to the lovely setting. The Observatory grounds have been closed due to the fire last year. I believe it's open again but check their website first.
You betcha. It's best to go from April on til late October, when all the features of the observatory are open/available.
Absolutely...anyplace you can share those beautiful views with your loved ones, it's a family place.
For most kids it's a great cool picnic location with views an modest little hikes from parking lot and between various telescopes. It is difficult to hold the attention of most kids for very long at the little museum and with the placards by the telescopes (lotsa reading). There is an inside view of the 100 inch telescope which is cool.
