Their website ( https://snow-valley.com/snow-report/) says that you currently do not need chains. Given that's it's raining, I wouldn't go into the mountains without a set. Even if they're not required now, they might be required when you come home.
There's a bunch of Cal trans signs up in the mountain saying bring chains required.

Always bring chains. My family went 3 weeks ago and the site said that chains were not needed. We ran into a few uphill Icy spots that got scary trying to climb. Cars with 4 wheel drive didnt really have a problem... but other cars kept sliding back down or wouldn't move at all, no matter how much they spun their wheels. It was a little unnerving. I would suggest to Always! Always! Always! take chains.
