A shelter option is the best option for the pet. Alternative options would be to surrender him to PetSmart as they have a kitten adoption program, finding a foster program in your area, or finding a friend. I had to surrender a 3 month old Chihuahua mix (surrendered to MDAS) and he was adopted within 6 months.
