On the renewal of your drivers license, if you have a gold star on the license that's expiring what do you need for the new license?

If all information on the license is correct, you will be required to take a vision test, and new photo and the renewal fee will be $54.25 plus any endorsements (if applicable). The gold star on your license means that you are REAL ID compliant meaning you have provided all identity documents required by the federal law (REAL ID ACT) that went into effect 1/2010 and has nothing to do with your driving record etc.

The gold star is for being a "safe driver". Equating to no points on your license. So as long as you have no points on your license when you renew, you will keep the star. Points are caused from traffic violations, tickets, that sort of thing.
