Hedgehogs are an animal that at best tolerate being held; none truly like it, regardless of where they're purchased.

I have owned and bred hedgehogs at several times in my life. Pet World has some of the best hedgehogs I've ever seen. They choose to purchase from breeders that handle oten, so the young start off well and are cared for extremely well at the store. It's true that if you don't keep up the contact at home, they will be less relaxed and easy to handle. So if you want a pet that's easy to play with and doesn't need much attention, a guinea pig is a good alternative (they are naturally friendly and easy to handle).
The hogs at the store are very used to being held if you are wanting to visit them, but if you buy your own you should know they get "un-used to it" rather quickly if you dont keep their level of socialization up.
My daughter and I have tried holding them. They seem just tolerant to intolerant. But not like they enjoy it.
