If you lose your license for the first time does it cost any money and do I have to make an appointment at the dmv or can I just wait the line outside?

My answer is: make an appointment within your own time frame. I also am dealing with the DMV of California. Right now the best way is to find out when the least amount of traffic is there and stand in line. They have improved their way of working.

Yes you have to pay a replacement fee. It goes faster if you make an appt.
