Hi! Looking at the photos on your Google listing, posted a few years ago by someone ostensibly visiting. Wondering what the photo of the young cow in the little plastic hutch is. Is that on your farm? If so, why? How long do they stay in those and what is

Hi Sophia, the answer above is almost correct except they are out of the individual calf cribs by 8-10 weeks old! These allow for us to manage calves better on an individual basis, making sure each calf gets a gallon of milk per day, and food and water, as well as protects each of them from the outside elements in the winter and builds up their immunity prior to heading to group pens with their peers! No dairy farms in our area, not do most dairy farms raise their dairy calves with their mothers. It’s not feasible in this part of the country and also makes it difficult to graze the milk cows properly as well as milk them in the milking parlor. We welcome you to come see them for yourself and you’ll see how spacious they are for the two months they are in them!

Thank you for taking the time to explain! Makes sense about their immune systems, but why isn’t that an issue when calves are out in the herd with their mothers?Do they have access to outdoor spaces while they’re in their hutches? I understand they’re only there for a few months but it seems like it would be a pretty restrictive space. I buy your brand because of your regenerative practices and humane treatment of cows, and just want to make sure I understand all the aspects of it. Thank you!

Hi Sophia, their benefit is providing a safe housing solution before the calves get weaned from milk around three to four months where their immune systems will become strong enough for them to be place in group housing with their peers down the road from our farm. Thanks for asking!
