Stolen! The KKK ran them off of their property, the city used eminent domain and racism to seal the deal. Run that family their money! I’m born and raised in California and just found out white people sunk four Black towns and put lakes on top of them!

The family should also be compensated for the original buildings. The resort was demolished when it was taken.

From what I hear as of a few days ago this property has been returned to it’s rightful black owners. On my way to check it out since I’m in LA!

I'M HAPPY THEIR GRAND AND GREAT GRANDS GET TO ENJOY IT.. I'M SHOCKED AT how many people that 😳 are hating on the fact that it was given back to this family🤷🏾‍♀️ this man bought this land with his freedom money. And they stole it from him. YES, IM of American Indian & Black descent and our ancestors were displaced and land taken on both sides. But, I'm happy this family, gets some closure on their roots. I grew up in Texas and tomorrow Juneteenth is a great day to see BRUCE'S ⛱️ BEACH💜

Read the 49 page document “Bruce's Beach Task Force Progress Report to Council” (publicly available on City of Manhattan Beach’s website) it’s clear that even after year in pursuit of any relevant historical information, the council members involved in forming the “Reparation Task Force” were unable to provide evidence to substantiate such claims. Legal documents containing the 1927 negotiations that took place between the Brown Family and the State of CA can be found in the PDF mentioned above. The Brown Family engaged in lengthy negotiations with the state before eventually settling on a price; ($50,000, paid out from the state vs. the Brown’e initial $1,500 investment) Claims of Klan involvement are also unsubstantiated by the task force. On page 19 of the council’s proposal, they (reluctantly) admit that “While there was no evidence directly linking acts of harassment to the KKK, many of Brigham’s interviewees reported racially-motivated incidents by residents.”

No, it was stolen from the Tongva Tribe whose land was all of Orange County. Where still here.

angelique rider-mitchell | Mar 2, 2022

Yes, it was stolen and I find it particularly self dealing on our politicians part to be getting the credit for giving it back when they waited until climate change is raising the sea levels to do it! This property could have been returned to the desendants years earlier, but it was still valuable then. Not that its not valuable now but for how much longer?

Sollie Walker IV | Nov 2, 2021

@Thorne Shadoe well now the family who that land was stolen from will get compensated like those Native Americans were so it's the win win right?!?

America’s his-story

The Beautiful Barber | Aug 8, 2022

Why would the Bruce family give it back when they PURCHASED it? The city didn't purchase it from the family, they stole it. Maybe the Tongva tribe should pursue the people who stole their land as they rightfully should

T y guys

Nothing more than a woke political move

JoAnn Pfeiffer | Jul 30, 2022

So will this family do the right thing and give it back to the rightful owners of the land, the Tongva tribe?
