I would like to repair a window in my family room that appears miss-sized. The existing widow does not completely cover the window space when closed it leaves about a half-inch gap. Can this be fixed without replacing the window.

Yes, take 1"x1"x by window width piece of wood and nail or caulk it in front of gap.
