I don't think that reservations are necessary but I always think that they're a good idea. Also, to have the best seating you should have a reservation.
Reservations recommended
We did not have reservations for the two of us and had no trouble getting a table. I can see the place getting busy and needing them. If having lunch here is important to you then why not make reservations?
I'd recommend it.
