I would not recommend kayaking to the island unless you are experienced, as the channel has a high amount of traffic. Many fishing vessels pass through at a high rate of speed and visibility can be poor.
Yes. You must cross open water. I am not sure of your skill level. I recommend using a gps program online to ensure you are up for the distance.
