I am told that cans of food with expired “Sell-by” dates are still (for the most part) safe to eat. Does anyone have any input on this? Does anyone know who will accept these cans or do I just toss them?

"Sell By" dates can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months ( depending on the food products) before the food can actually not be safely eaten.!!!

The food bank recommends against donating expired canned goods. Whether you eat it from your pantry is your own decision. Perhaps googling canned food safety will better assist you. But please, dont donate expired items.

We do not accept expired cans at Second Harvest.

When we do scouting for food, they do accept expired foods. They are placed on pantry shelves, typically with a note that they are expired.
