I was there recently, spoke to one of the employees and "free adoption day" was never mentioned. Although that's a wonderful idea because their fees are quite high. As far as a comment made to "putting older ones down", I thought that was against their values of placing animals into a loving home. This makes me think twice about what they are supposed to stand for. The location in DeLand is a "no kill" agency. And their fees are much more affordable. The animals are chipped and have their necessary shots.
Some of the older animals had fees paid by an anonymous donor. Probably ones that were close to being put down. They were all adorable. My granddaughter had been scared by a neighbor's dog, so I thought if I took her to the humane society it would help her get over it. She went in crying that she didn't want to be there...started with the kitties and worked her way up. By the time we left she wanted to adopt about 20 pit bulls. They were wonderful.
They usually advertise. They just had one a few weeks back
