They do have some capacity for first come first served camping. It is mixed in with the non-site specific reservations campgrounds. It's self register at the site. I've never gotten a satisfactory explanation for how they ensure there will be sites available for those who reserve sites in those camp grounds. I've always made reservations.

Agreed... and although reservations are not required for visiting the summit/visitor center, parking is limited. TIPS: Go early in the day Dress warmly in layers (the summit temps WILL be much lower than the valley) Plan for a picnic lunch with an amazing view at one of the many pulloffs
