Unless dangerous icy conditions occur, the trails generally remain open all winter. With that said, be advised that Mt. Baldy and the surrounding hiking trails become very dangerous during snowy/icy/windy conditions. If there is visible snow on the mountain, use extreme prejudice. Without training or knowledge of mountaineering or fall arrest, you could be risking your life. Many aerial rescues and deaths occur during these conditions every year. There are many trails lower on the mountain that are great alternates, including Icehouse Canyon, Claremont Loop, Potato Mountain, Sunset Peak and more. Enjoy!
I am a former ski instructor at Baldy, I have been there when they have sent search parties looking for lost hikers. Be advised, it is dangerous to go in the winter. Rocks could be slick, weather can change rapidly, and hikers can find themselves in dangerous conditions. Just be careful, check the weather forecast let people know when and where you will be hiking and when you will be back. Hike with a buddy if possible, wear the appropriate clothing and gear. Most importantly stay hydrated.
Of course. Go for it. No snow yet. But when it does snow, bring an ice axe!
Yes, especially now as there is no snow yet.
