Hostelling International has a hostel in Chinatown, close to everything. It is an amazing location and very affordable. I definitely recommend. Also, I suggest you visit the Museum of Fine Arts, the Victory Garden, and the Peabody Museum which is actually in Cambridge near Harvard. All of these are accessible by the T

The Marriott Custom House is history itself, the Omni is the oldest continually running hotel. Both are well placed to see the city.

I think the Marriott was right there on the Harbor pretty much in the middle of things. We stayed at the seaport hotel which was a mile-and-a-half walk to get to the sites. Next visit I would stay much closer to the center of things

The best hotel we stayed at was Yotel. The museum was down the block walking distance!

I stayed at the Westin hotel at Copley plaza. It's a very nice hotel and it's a short walk away to one of the stops for the trolleys. The Boston Tea Party museum, old ironside and many other famous Boston sites are found along the trolley routes.

I tried air b&b for the first time and save me $100+ per night! It was in a great neighborhood nearby and the city has great transportation.

We stayed in Woburn and drove in and parked at the aquarium parking garage $40 a day. We either walked or took the Trolley. It is a 15 minute walk from the aquarium. Remember the trolleys only go in one direction, they don't go in the opposite direction. So the 1st trolley stop is about a block away from the aquarium and the Boston Tea Party is stop 16, the last stop before it starts over. It takes about and hour and a half to go from 1 to 16. So we walked. But the Boston Tea party was the best part of all the places we went in Boston

Good luck. I hoteled in Plymouth at Best Western. Everything was booked. Stay away from Motel 6. Might be closer but rough areas with Bates Motel (horrifying) calibre reviews.
