By definition checks are not legal tender and businesses have the right to choose to accept or decline payment as such. There are certainly other theaters to visit but Century 16 is far above a 0 rating.
They're not legal tender, they're checks issued by private banking institutions and for most small businesses unverifiable. The definition for "legal tender" is: "coins or banknotes that must be accepted if offered in payment of a debt". "Bank notes" are defined as: "a piece of paper money, constituting a central bank's promissory note to pay a stated sum to the bearer on demand". Private banks are not central.
Just because it's "legal tender" (which it isn't), a business isn't obligated to accept it. They could decide they *only* want to take credit cards. It would be silly, but it is the business's prerogative. Checks have declined in acceptance for a number of years now based on the prevalence and ease of check fraud. That is likely their reason for refusing checks. I run my own business and I do not accept checks.
5 star rating I was amazed when I came back from Canada to see that they added recliners
As long as they post it. It is their right. Just like they have the right to refuse service
