According to our tour guide on the Queen Mary the reason the ship is their is because the city if Long Beach actually bought the ship it seems as though the ship builders were looking for someone to buy the ship who would not destroy it but leave it as is because the ship was very special to them several countries wanted to buy it for different things like as a floating college, sail the parts off as salvage to make money. Long Beach was the only city who promise to keep the ship as is & use it as a tourist attraction.

It was ordered to be made in December 1930. That's just where it last sailed to after leaving Southampton in 1967. They retired the ship in long beach ca and now used as a tourist attraction.
