Good morning, I have an American passport and I'm going to Colombia. My passport expires in 5 months. Can I use it in Colombia or do I need to renew it before traveling? I go for two weeks. Some countries require that the passport be valid for 6 months ..

Rocio is right. They charge an exaggerated fine. And if you don't pay it, they won't let you out. They told me that if I wanted to leave without a Colombian passport, I had to report to my country. Well I had to pay

If you are a Colombian you must enter Colombia with a Colombian passport or they charge you a fine Alticima. Only to return to the USA do you use your American passport.

I went THAT way last year and it was horrible. I do not recommend traveling without the Colombian. The laws changed there and one without an idea here!
