When a train has to leave or return to the yard. The D rail must be lowered then raised back into position. This is a safety device that insures trains NEVER roll into oncoming traffic. The train rolls in the switchman exits the train then lowers the d rail to allow the train to enter the yard. Often times trains are miles long. This can take time. For the train to move at a safe speed in order to stop when fully loaded. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may make for the cars in traffic. We only want to insure that the public is always safe. Thank you.
