Planning to go this evening. Park says it will closed. Where is a good place to park and enjoy the skies?

I head east of the springs. Get off the road down one of the washes or trails. All wheel drive recommended.

Planning to park and spend the night here, is this permitted nearby sculptures?

I would go to the sculptures. There is a lot of space around any of the sculptures to park and hang out while star gazing. The serpent or the scorpion ones are the best ones.
