We went during the super bloom. Lovely colorful wild flowers all over. Easily found just a short walk from the highway. We will definitely visit next time after a good rainy season.

As far as the natural beauty of the desert goes, this is pretty unique. Definitely worth a visit if you're here at the right time of year. That being said, you can't really predict the rains, so I wouldn't head out here just for this.

We were there April 1 and there was absolutely no bloom! Just a very dry terrain unfortunately due to lack of rainfall this last winter.
For Borrego, yes. If you are looking to stay over night, good luck. But a day trip is doable.
Gotta get a blue dress like in the sound of music and spin around in the flowers.
