Any idea how early on a weekend i should get there to get a first come first serve spot near the playground?

to get the playground area I suggest to go to the park when they first open in morning then throw some table covers just to let others know the Area is already ready taken for whenever your guesses are ready to show. is hard but I'm sorry to say is the only way to get the playground area👍👍

Go as early as you can like 7am or even earlier. Even if you just set up because the picnic areas fill up fast espically if you want to be by playground.

Gates open at 8: 00 sharp

Some of the spots are able to be reserved. Usually the areas are open except for holidays.

You cannot get i until 8am.

Gates open at 8am anyone trying to set up or save a spot before will be asked to leave by the rangers (if more than one is scheduled to work in the morning)

I never went on a weekend, just during the week.

Usually at 7:40am you will have more opportunities to be first .
