Great place for hiking and biking. It was free in July 2022. We did mineral spring trail. There are many switchbacks to reach the top and hike is medium.

Love to hike up the trails up the hill for a little climbing exercise. Beautiful park. I always go up to the last parking lot by the park office and youth science center. I haven't had a picnic here but it would be perfect for that. Grills available plus safe coal disposal. There are a few fields for light "picnic" type sports like volleyball. Mostly I walk and climb. Still not very crowded on a weekend afternoon. And as of May 2022 parking is still free.

Visited park and Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve to bike. For bikers, trails and miles are limited, but the wrap-around and reward sections were fun. You will earn the fun, however, because some climbing sections, for me, were hike-a-bike. For hikers, you could spend a day hiking the perimeter. For everyone, max out the water you carry. Visited on a Monday morning and lots of people, mainly walkers, on trails. If you make it to the top you'll be rewarded with expansive views of San Jose. This park has lots of historical structures - stone bridges, train trestles, a cabin, hot spring ruins- along the paved road.

It's usually not too crowded during weekdays. This park is very clean, very green, and lots of shades. The trails are generally more flat and kids friendly. There are tables and grass areas for picnics. I'd recommend this park for families with young kids.

Yes, Alum Rock Park is open again.
Yes, you just need to make sure they know ahead of time when and where to pick you up since there are areas with poor cell reception inside the park.
It's a great place for hiking, biking, picnics, and sports like volleyball and kids playgrounds as well. I've been visiting that park for decades. The hiking is on flat ground or challenge you uphill. It is very old where trains used to go all the way to the Visitor Center. They have a nature center for students and curious onlookers. They have plenty of parking all around. You cannot see all the sites in one day. You do have to pay for parking. It is a family treat!! I used to run the hills being a soccer player. It's the fastest way to get in shape. Biking is a thrill and has lots of trails. If you walk, run or bike all the way to Eagle Rock then you are in for a sight to see all the way around the valley.
No, drones are not allowed in San Jose regional parks.
No
Was not closed yesterday
It was free to park when I went however it does look like they did charge at one time and may again in the future
On 04/01/21 they will be charge $6 for day ,,,and$10 on holly day
Most of our trails are dirt and gravel, but we do have paved roads along the old entrance "One way road" & "Alum Rock Ave" that are for pedestrians, bicyclists, service vehicles & park rangers. The general rule of thumb is Mt Biking is allowed on most trails of the North Side of the Canyon. Trails on the Southside are for hikers with exception of the service roads.
Park is closing after son set... And depending how strong you are.
Sorry, no dogs / pets allowed in the park as it disrupts the wild life natural habits. For further inquiries you can call 408-259-5477. Have a great day!

They do not rent horses, but you can ride horses on some trails in the park.
Mountain Bikes are allowed on the north side of the canyon as well as roads. Trails are easy to medium in difficulty.
There should be one in the visitors center if you ask one of the staff members.
Today we saw a mama deer with two does, a mama duck with some ducklings, a snake, a bunch of beautiful Settler’s Jays, some big birds and butterflies.
They also used redwood, buckeye, maple, manzanita, and madrone.
