Are the hours listed for the visitor’s center or are these the only times you can physically get to the lighthouse? Could we theoretically get there in the morning to view the lighthouse?

You can only get to the lighthouse when the visitor center is open. There is a gated tunnel along the way that would keep you out.

The lighthouse is open on Sundays and Mondays from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Otherwise, the tunnel entrance to what was formerly an underwater volcano is locked and you will be unable to see the lighthouse from the trail. Instead, you would have to hike to Battery Mendell or Battery Townsley to get a view of the ligthouse. The Visitor Center is open every day except Tuesday from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Sunday and Monday 12-3 pm is the only times you can go through the otherwise locked tunnel to see the lighthouse.
