Comfortable walking shoes are best. Right now the art museums and library exhibit rooms are closed. So everyone is simply walking the gardens - quite an extensive walk! (On hilly terrain)
If you are comfortable walking in it. It's a huge place to walk around so I'd wear something I can go the distance with. There are benches to rest on or carry it in a bag for when you are ready to take a picture with

This is not your dating cute place I would suggest you wear cute sneakers that have a lot of support. Lot of walking here.
The property is quite large, I suggest wearing comfortable footwear. Or bring 2 pairs of shoes if you are taking pictures.
Its about 7 miles walk if you want to visit all exhibits. Your feet will thank you for comfy shoes.
You can take both, walking shoes and heels for photos: this is such a beautiful place, you will want to look appropriately pretty on your pics!
I wore booties with a dress and it wasn't horrible but I'd say some comfortable shoes for sure. It's a lot of walking. There were some people with sandals when we went, but it really was a lot of walking and some stairs so you'd really want to be comfortable.
