It may not be fiscally wise. Labor cost alone would be a significant percentage of a new 50" TV (currently around $500 and not too much more for a 4K unit), that, when you add in parts, you may find that you're paying almost as much for a fix. If it's the screen, it will surely cost more than a new TV.
