Yes, there is an adoption fee for all the animals however they do have events throughout the year where adoption fees are waived and or greatly reduced. They also have elder animals at a reduced fee. FYI the elder animals are purrrfectly healthy unless they have diabetes or something specific which is always noted on their cage card. Elder doesn't always mean 20yrs old either they are typically over age 5 and I have to say from personal experience here they are some of the sweetest loving and gentle ever.

Standard Dog Adoption Fees$175 dogs* $350 puppy adoptions for people who have not attended our free Puppy Parent Orientation class (puppies under 6 months)*50 percent OFF puppy adoptions for people who have attended our free Puppy Parent Orientation class (puppies under six months, $175)* Additional discounts may be offered for cats or dogs who arrived as bonded pairs. Double the love and inquire at the adoption desk for more information! The fee goes back to the SPCA to cover the operational expenses. *At the time of adoption, San Francisco residents pay a $23 San Francisco dog license fee.

Yes. For any animal adopted from the shelter, there is a tax deductible adoption fee/charitable donation. All proceeds go back into the operation of the shelter.
