There are places to put you dog up at pet hotels but i don't know if they allow long term housing for your pooch. If you take your dog to the SPCA they might assume that you want to put your dog up for adpotion. The best bet in my opinion is to keep your dog with you, you will regret it as soon as you leave the shelter. I don't know your story but keep the dog or if you have a friend that you see all the time see if they can house your pooch while you get stablized. In my honest opinion Vickie keep your dog with you, both you and your dog will be happy.
SFSPCA is a very good organization. However, it does not offer such an option. Besides they can admit a dog or cat, only if it was adopted from them originally. Other than that, If you ever surrender a dog or cat, you need to go to the ACC. In both cases, it would be put up for adoption. I would recommend to keep your dog or find a solution such as leaving with a reliable friend (with a written document). You may also try nextdoor to find such a person. Keeping SFSPCA exempt, I have another note: Be careful about any shelters. There is a minimal risk, because most of the shelters are "kill shelters", meaning that they would do their best for finding the owner or a new furever home, but they might need to euthanize animals when space is needed. SFSPCA does not do that.
Only if your dog is considered a service dog it can be for emotional support as well depending upon how your Mental Health Doctor writes the letter. Keep in mind the dog also has to be current on its vaccines and has to listen and obey and not be a threat to others. But yes they will allow a therapy dog to remain in the shelter with you if needed. Miss Kari D.
Hi Vicky. It's beautiful to feel as you do. Remember they are as much part of you as you are of them. A good friend is the same. Share it with them and see if someone will fo temporary housing for you. Whatever this transition period is, know it is just a moment in your life and that it too shall pass. Sending you energies of peace during this time.
