They do not care for animals here! Leaving a dog for hours without food is abuse and evil. Close up shop if you can’t even follow basic common sense

Saw a video of a pup crying and no one came to help him. No food for over a day either. I could never leave my babies at a place like this. Awful care - until this company addresses this problem I hope people keep leaving terrible reviews and stop bringing their pets here. This is NOT OK!

I recently boarded my dog at the Wagfacility in San Francisco. I found the staff to be professional, warm and caring, and reasonably efficient. I could tell the front desk was under a little pressure to handle the volume but they did so gracefully. Communications could be improved, as getting shoveled into the corporate wide phone line every time you reach out is a hassle. But staff themselves are good and helpful, once you reach them. It is clean and modern, with a nice pull-in area for cars like a hotel would have. In a busy location like San Francisco, this really relieved the stress of locating parking and dealing with unloading stuff and checking my pet in. When I picked him up, I could tell he had a good time. He did not overwhelm me with happiness  that I was there, which he usually does after we are separated.  I think that indicates he was comfortable there and didn’t feel like he just had to get away. So I want to commend Wag, and the San Francisco location in particular, for its good people and culture.  I can sense when staff are tense and overwhelmed, but everyone I met was graceful and seemed to be working well with their peers.  Despite being busy. You often don’t know what you are getting into with pet boarders. Some facilities seem to just be people who keep a few pets in their house, a few are mom and pop organizations that are hit and miss, a lot cut corners on cleanliness and professionalism. You can find good hearted people out there, but it takes a while to get comfortable with a facility, and it’s often driven by personal relationships. I’d feel comfortable with Wag. Despite being a chain of facilities, where you’d expect a heavy process and staff indifference, they handle it well. I recommend Wag to others, and will use them in the future again myself.

We were in town for the weekend and wanted our dog to have something fun to do while we were in the city so I went online and found Wag Hotel. I was so excited because everything sounded amazing on the website. So I created a profile, uploaded all vax records, etc. and then when I went to reserve for daycare, it says to call. I tried calling numerous times and received nothing back so we decided to head over there since on the website, it says specifically "Walk-ins welcome". Well, walk-ins are certainly NOT welcome. The front desk girls on 6/25 at 8:30am were rude and apparently don't know anything about good customer service. The one girl I talked to tried to turn me away multiple times, saying that even though my acct was created online already, it takes 3 days to populate in their system. I wasn't having it since the website said walk-ins welcome and since there was plenty of space left in their daycare. I asked her multiple times how to resolve this and she said she didn't know how and then when she realized I wasn't budging, she FINALLY admitted that she could in fact pull my acct over, she was just being lazy and didn't want to do it. Then she proceeded to make me wait 45 minutes while she helped other customers multiple times. Not to mention, she did the same thing and tried to turn away another girl before us and that girl only got to drop her dog off for daycare because the manager had come up to the front. Then came the time for someone to take our dog to the back and there was zero organization when it came to this. It was basically just a free for all and whoever could get that persons attention first, instead of it being a line of who checked in first. Which again, I witnessed a man who had checked in watch them take 4-5 other dogs back before his own. We were there an hour and a half total just to drop our dog off for 8 hours. My last issue is that my dog came home with us very anxious and scared. She has been to dog boarding and dog daycare numerous times and this has never happened which just leads me to believe she was locked in a kennel all day and/or was treated poorly by the employees. I will definitely never be returning and I truly regret not reading the reviews beforehand.

Questions & Answers

When boarding, it says "2 daily one hour play groups". Does that mean they're locked in their room for 22 hours per day?? This sounds more like a kennel than a hotel.

Hi Wesley, we offer various programs for our overnight guests. We have All Day Play, which is a 12 hour social opportunity for dogs to interact and mingle. This is great for some dogs, but for others it may be too much stimulation and activity for a day. We let the pet parents decide what is best for their pup, based on their individual temperament! We see a lot of energetic dogs, and also a ton of couch potatoes that are not use to more than a short walk a day at home. We hope this helps answer your question.

How does one open up their own Wag's hotel franchise?

Hi Nick, Wag Hotels is not a franchise.

what are you doing about the civ outbreak?

Kristen Rau | Aug 22, 2018

Thank you for your concern. CIV, or the Canine flu has impacted the bay area community for the last several months. Wag Hotels SF had its first diagnosed case yesterday. We have been consulting with veterinary industry leaders to ensure we take every measure possible to keep our guests healthy. We will be completing a deep clean of the facility for 2 days, and will re open with pre determined intake questions. We encourage everyone in the community to get their dogs vaccinated for Canine Influenza Virus. Although it doesn't prevent transmission of the virus it does reduce severity of symptoms. Very similar to the flu for humans. Feel free to contact the hotel directly at anytime for additional insight.
