In California it's illegal to own a ferret.
I got it, thanks for the info.
Unfortunately ferrets are not legal to keep as pets in California. Additionally, without being a bonafide rescue or sanctuary organization, no permitting process or other means exists to keep them, or any other so-called "exotic" animals. No California pet store will carry them, although many still carry at least some items necessary to care for them. If you do chose to aquire one from another state (they are legal nearly everywhere else in the US), think carefully about that decision. Many exotic pets that are found by wildlife authorities in CA are euthanized if they cannot be placed with a sanctuary or taken out of state, so unless you are sure you can care for them without exposing them to these kinds of risks, you may be placing the animal in real danger of being euthanized. It sounds like you may benefit from some additional research on ferret ownership. They are not the most complex pets on the planet, but they have social and health needs closer to a cat or dog than a rodent.
