We have sent children into the theatre unaccompanied many times. I suspect, there could be an adults only performance, but it would be printed on the ticket.
Like the previous person said its really based on the show that sets the age guidelines.
Children under 5 are not allowed. Each show has its own recommendation and guidance listed on the show page.
