If you don't have the money to buy a dog, than you shouldn't have a dog. Believe me, they are expensive and you can't cut corners - they absolutely NEED flea medication or near constant baths with how bad the flea infestations are this year - that's already over 200$ a year, on top of cost for pet food, poop bags, leash and collar, licensing, spay/neuter (which is legally required in the state of CA) vaccinations, etc. Dogs are wonderful, and I would never trade mine for anything, but if you want a free dog because you already are thinking "cheap", don't get a dog.
Please you are alreadypresuming they don't have that already. You are acting as if you need to spend for a diamond collar this person legitimately wants a pet that doesnt cost 300 dollars or more just to walk out the door. Ofcourse you need supplies and regular up keep... you should leave it at that and just answer the question
I agree dogs are not cheap. That being said if that isn't the issue and you just don't want to spend hundreds at the pet store then a pound is a great option however none of them will be free, there are some fees but it is inexpensive. Also this shelter is not the one for you being cost conscious.
