Comprehensive coverage will cover the following: Car theft, damage from theft, fires and explosions, falling objects, weather conditions such as wind damage from hurricanes, violence from civil unrest or riots and hitting or being hit by a deer or animal. Collision coverage will cover the following: Damage to your car from a collision and collision with an object. You will need to review the amount you will be out of pocket in case of an accident. Ask your Allstate agent about which deductible is best suited for you.

What is comprehensive coverage?

Brian T. McMahon: Allstate Insurance | Aug 21, 2021
Brian T. McMahon: Allstate Insurance | Aug 21, 2021

Comprehensive coverage pays for the repairs to a covered auto that is stolen or damaged by something other than a collision or rolling over. Some examples include the following: Damage caused by fire, wind, hail, flood , theft, vandalism, falling objects, and impact with an animal. The comprehensive coverage also covers glass claims and windshield repairs. Most of the time your insurance will have a deductible you will be responsible to pay out of pocket before you can file a claim. Make sure to ask your agent about the deductible you currently have on your auto policy.

Am I covered for a rental car?

Brian T. McMahon: Allstate Insurance | Aug 21, 2021
Brian T. McMahon: Allstate Insurance | Aug 21, 2021

Not all policies are made alike. Ask your Allstate agent to check your policy for " rental reimbursement coverage". In some cases, if you do not have rental reimbursement and are involved in an accident, the party responsible will pay for your rental car. Your claim adjuster will be able to determine if the other party involved in the accident is responsible for your car rental. Ask your Allstate agent about a policy review to see what is covered and what is not.

Will my Allstate Insurance premium increase after a car insurance claim?

Brian T. McMahon: Allstate Insurance | Aug 21, 2021
Brian T. McMahon: Allstate Insurance | Aug 21, 2021

Not necessarily, but every claim is different. The amount of your car insurance premium depends on multiple factors and accidents are not the primary reason your insurance might increase. However, if your insurance company raises your auto insurance premium after a claim, the following factors may play a role: The severity and the cost of the claim, your driving record and who was at fault for the claim. In most cases, if your insurance company does find you AT FAULT your premium could increase as a result. If you are found NOT AT FAULT, this coverage helps pay for accident claims and usually do not come with a premium increase. Every state is different, Ask your agent about AT FAULT and NOT AT FAULT accidents.

How long do accidents stay on your Allstate insurance?

Brian T. McMahon: Allstate Insurance | Aug 21, 2021
Brian T. McMahon: Allstate Insurance | Aug 21, 2021

If you are found AT FAULT in an accident, your insurance company may raise your insurance premium for an average of 3 years. In California, the 3 year surcharge after being involved in an accident may gradually decrease each year that you are not involved in another accident. The amount of time the accident affects your record may vary from state to state.
