It's a nature reserve. In a pretty rural area. There's a huge park and a golf course next to it. Lots of wildlife = lots of prey for coyotes. Also, as more buildings go up they lose grounds to hunt/scavenge on and get pushed into neighborhoods and reserves like this one.
I didn't see any the time I went but I have seen coyotes roaming around near by.
